Mr. Lea Upton McKnight, esq.

We arrived home last night after spending a fabulous weekend in Fredonia! We had a great time hanging out with lots of cousins, chasing cows, petting horses, hiking, roasting marshmallows, etc. I have a lot of pictures to share.

In the meantime, a number of you have been asking why this blog is called Fredonia Falldown.
Alan's family has had a ranch in Fredonia, TX for 135 years. His great, great grandparents built the ranch house that we stay in today. Fredonia is a small town (can I even call it a town) nestled between the bustling Mason and Brady (boasting about 2000 people.)
Alan's dad, Sam McKnight, had 3 brothers and a sister. The youngest, a brother, Lea Upton took a liking to the ranch :-) He managed the family properties and ranch from Fredonia. These ranchers live a hard life. Taking care of a ranch and trying to make a living doing so should not be underestimated. This area of Texas has come to be called "Alcohol Valley." Let's just say that there is a LOT of drinking going on in Fredonia.
Lea was a very creative man. In fact, he created the Fredonia Falldown. This is not a drink to be taken lightly - Lea had a drinking strength that most of us probably lack. Please proceed with caution.
Fredonia Falldown

  1. I have had many drinks with Lea both at the ranch in San Angelo and the Valley. I remember Lea never had a watch and when I asked him why he said it wasn't necessary as everyone else had one. His favorite hang out was the Red Rooster.

  2. I have never had a Fredonia Falldown, but if Lee liked them they must be worth trying. However, I will certainly heed your suggestion to proceed with caution. If you ever see me at the Red Rooster, you will know that the FF got the better of me, in which case please save me immediately!
